Conference History
Previously Maryborough Music Conference
Building on the legacy of the Maryborough Music Conference, we are proud to introduce the Queensland Music Education Conference.
The Maryborough Music Conference began its journey in 2001 and transitioned into a biennial event by 2003. Initially tailored for early-career instrumental music teachers within the local education district, the conference offered a space to connect with peers and pursue professional growth. Over the years, it expanded its vision, bridging a critical gap in professional development for music educators and establishing itself as Australia’s premier music education event. By welcoming top national and international educators, composers, conductors, and industry professionals, the Maryborough Music Conference became a cornerstone for music education across the country.
This esteemed conference embraces a holistic approach to music education, covering instrumental and choral conducting, pedagogy, inclusion, Indigenous perspectives, local Curricula, and emerging technologies. The event also features a comprehensive trade exhibition, showcasing cutting-edge products and services. With over 500 delegates regularly in attendance—including educators, musicians, and industry leaders—it has fostered unparalleled opportunities for collaboration and innovation within the Australian music community.
