Why QMEC?
With the conference settling in Brisbane/Meanjin and a new location at the Queensland Conservatorium of Music, this year’s event promises to provide a jam packed, rich and creative program of events. Find out more about some of the key features of QMEC 2025 and what you can expect from the three days.
Performance and pedagogy ensembles
One of the elements that makes QMEC 2025 so special is the opportunity to rehearse with a renowned conductor, play carefully curated repertoire and perform at the gala concert with fellow musicians. This suite of performance ensembles provides a wonderful environment of creative learning, where you can bring your instrument, refine your skills and revel in the joy of playing together.
Delegates who nominate for performance groups will be allocated by the Conference Committee in conjunction with the conductor with the aim of creating balanced ensembles. Members of performance ensembles will receive music prior to the conference and be expected to have sufficiently prepared prior to rehearsal.
There is also a selection of pedagogy ensembles where participants enjoy professional development in conducting and ensemble pedagogy, refine skills on an alternate instrument, and have additional opportunities to be involved in the ensembles experience. These ensembles will not be performing at the gala concert but may instead be offered opportunities to perform during a session or be observed by other delegates during a rehearsal.
We encourage all delegates to bring their instrument/s and get involved in an ensemble throughout the conference. As the only conference in Australia that offers this suite of performance ensembles, we’d love for you to be part of it.
Access to one-on-one sessions with conductors
QMEC 2025 offers delegates the chance to book a free session with selected conductors and presenters at the conference. Spaces will be limited and will be available on a first in, first served basis.
